Anti-concurrent causation clause law signed. Uh, yeah, OK

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley signed a bill earlier this month that should make homeowners insurance a little easier for people who are not insurance professionals to understand. The new law also calls for the Legislature to study anti-concurrent causation clauses and how insurers and the National Flood Insurance Program handle property insurance claims when a loss could be the result of two or more factors.

Market House art project: If you install it, will they come?

Supporters of some mildly controversial -- and temporary -- cosmetic changes to Market House faced a few voices raised in opposition at an Annapolis Historic Preservation Commission meeting this week. The proposal calls for a rooftop art installation as well as improved lighting and some Maryland flag pennants on the historic City Dock building.

Safe Building Code bill could gain ground in post-Sandy Congress

The insurance industry has long lobbied for national building code standards, and the fight has finally come to the 113th Congress. Bills were introduced in the House and the Senate recently that would encourage, not mandate, states to adopt a best-practices, state-wide building code.
